Sylvia Deily, DC
Dr. Deily
understands that every patient is different and
that many factors affect healing. Her
goal is to provide treatment that speeds recovery
and makes patients independent of her care.
When her own
recurrent back and neck pain was treated successfully
with a rehabilitation program this fundamentally
changed her approach to patient care. “I had back and neck pain for years
which was managed with massage and chiropractic,
but it always came back. It wasn’t until
someone looked at me holistically and taught me
exercises to correct musculoskeletal imbalances
that my pain resolved. This opened my eyes
to a new perspective which informs how I treat
patients today.”
Dr. Deily
specializes in assessing the structure and function
of the body to find causes and sources of musculoskeletal
pain. From this assessment
an individualized treatment plan is developed to
address each patient’s specific functional goals
and activities. She believes in doctor and patient
collaboration throughout the delivery of care to
create efficient, effective recovery.
Her practice is not limited to only spinal conditions;
it includes the assessment and treatment of any
region of the body – neck, back, ankles, knees,
hips, shoulders, elbows, wrists, TMJs, etc.
Treatment typically includes:
- patient education regarding his/her condition
or diagnosis, corrective ergonomics, proper movement
and body mechanics for activities of daily living
or sports
- some form of manual therapy (massage, manipulation,
assisted stretching) as clinically indicated
and / or preferred by the patient
- occasional physical therapy modalities such
as Kinesiotaping, traction, heat, ice, e-stim
- a strong emphasis on individualized programs
of therapeutic exercise and rehabilitation
Dr. Deily grew up in Puerto
Rico, Mexico, and Texas, then moved to California. She and her husband
recently returned to Austin, and are very happy to
be here. Over the years she has enjoyed competitive
swimming, weight training, martial arts (Jujitsu,
Jeet Kune Do, Kali), yoga and CrossFit. She
is also a bookworm and a foodie.
